Cybersecurity Career Paths - Incident Response, SOC
I will be doing a deep dive on Incident response (IR for short) and Security Operations Center (SOC for short). I have grouped these together as a lot of the times they are used interchangeably. This will be part 2 of a 4 part series around cybersecurity career paths.

Roadmap of Cybersecurity
Many people have asked me where to get started for learning more about cybersecurity roles and the kind of work it involves. Although some may think of Cybersecurity as pentesting or “hacking”, it is much broader than that. Here is an overview of the makeup of Cybersecurity.
Community
What we need to take our learning to another level, is a community we can grow in.
At Year Up the concept of community is instilled from the get go. The faculty drives home the point that you can’t do it alone, and that building a bond is crucial to having success from the training program. At first I was hesitant about this and frankly a little reluctant. Why did I need to talk to everybody? Why couldn’t I just learn, rinse and repeat and get on with my life?
Skills Overview
In order to aid your journey to build skills for a career in tech, here is an overview of what to expect. A more in depth write up to follow.
A list of skills and qualities you need to succeed in this field
My Start
My Opportunity In Getting Into Tech
I opened my Year Up offer letter and there was the logo for the company I was going to be interning at. That was it, my foot was officially in the door. Granted, my toe was in the door but you get the point. From there on out I was on an interview, an exhibition of whether I could or could not do this. I knew I had the work ethic, now it was about picking up everything I could to be able to get into tech.
What to Expect
What These Posts Will Be About
I want to write articles that I feel can benefit others and give a different take on getting into the field of tech.
With the power of the internet, we can help others that are making the move or have made the move into this field
and undoubtedly have questions.
Intro Post
I would assimilate improving your skills in tech as to getting better at basketball, let me tell you what I mean by that. With minimal equipment, you can practice the sport and over time improve your game (all you need is a ball and a makeshift hoop). < – This is how I started 😅 .
With the proper motivation you can continuously get better at basketball and this doesn’t require anything fancy or a huge investment.
